A few days ago, my mom called me down to the kitchen to watch a story on the news with her. It was a story about a new movie coming out which followed the story of a teenage girl in 2018. The movie follows the story of an 8th grade girl, and how technology effects her everyday life. Yes, this was yet another story about the i-gen, a generation of kids who have grown up with technology. As I listened to the story, most of the comments and observations I heard were about how technology negatively impacts teenagers. The people being interviewed for the story were the director and a 15 year old girl who is playing the main character. The interviewer asked the actor and director if they believe that technology has negatively impacted kids today. Both of them said yes. At this point in the story, I paused the television, looked to my mom and rolled my eyes. I have watched and read countless stories about the dangers of social media and the impact technology has on kids. But, what I find interesting about all of the stories I’ve heard, is that everyone has something to say about the impact of technology on teenagers, except the teenagers themselves. As a part of the i-gen, I fully understand the impact technology has on us. I have seen it first hand, and I strongly believe that technology has had a greater positive effect on teenagers than negative effect. This blog is a way to voice opinions about the positive ways technology has impacted teenagers. I would love to hear from teenagers themselves about how they believe technology has positively effected their lives. I do understand that technology has had many negative effects on our generation, but, I also believe that technology has done more good than harm, and I want to prove that through stories and messages posted on this blog. After all, I wouldn’t have been able to create this blog and share my opinions if it weren’t for technology.
